PRESENCE Teaser: Steven Soderbergh Captures the Supernatural in Neon Horror Thriller
Steven Soderbergh has never been bound by genre. The Oscar-winning director has revolutionized Hollywood over his decades-long career with his DIY approach to filmmaking, which includes acting as his cinematographer and editor. Thirty-plus years after his iconic debut Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Soderbergh returned to Sundance this year to unveil his foray into horror.
Presence follows a family of four, played by Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, and Eddy Maday, who move into a new house in the suburbs where they soon realize they may not be alone… but rather surrounded by an entity that wants something from them. Julia Fox and West Mulholland also star. The film was written by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Panic Room) which grew from an idea Soderbergh had based on a rumored gruesome history of a house he lived in.
NEON, now fresh off their biggest hit Longlegs, picked up the film following its Sundance premiere and will soon screen it at TIFF in its Centrepiece section. Ahead of its January 17 release, the distributor has once again flexed their horror marketing chops with an eerie teaser trailer.
