HOPE Trailer: Na Hong-Jin’s Wild Invasion Thriller Arrives in September
About a decade after turning audiences’ heads with his terrifying hit The Wailing, Na Hong-Jin returned to this year’s Cannes Film Festival with what is now considered Korea’s most expensive film ever: a different kind of tale about a community in peril. Hope stars South Korean megastars Hwang Jung-min, Hoyeon, and Zo In-Sung as police officers and townsfolk in a fight for survival against creatures wreaking havoc on their village. It also features megastars Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell, and Cameron Britton. Following its upcoming North American premiere at the New York Asian Film Festival, NEON will roll it out in theaters September 9.
As the official synopsis reads:
In the remote South Korea village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung- min) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) are called to find a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the village. In the nearby forest, a coterie of hunters, including Sung- ki (Zo In-Sung) set out to track the beast and find themselves hunted instead. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading. What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions.
