LA CHIMERA Trailer: Josh O’Connor Searches For Love & Treasure in Alice Rohrwacher’s Mystical Drama
Josh O’Connor is on a surreal quest in Alice Rohrwacher’s La Chimera. The otherworldly drama had its world premiere at last year’s Cannes, as well as screened at TIFF and NYFF. In her fourth feature after 2018’s Happy As Lazzaro, O’Connor stars as an archeologist who gets involved in the black market of stolen Etruscan artifacts in 1980s Italy, while also mourning a recent loss. It also stars Isabella Rossellini, Carol Duarte, Alba Rohrwacher, and Vincenzo Nemolato. Given how Rohrwacher’s films have hints of magical realism, it would be safe to expect the same in her newest feature. NEON has unveiled the official U.S. trailer ahead of its release in theaters March 29.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Everyone has their own Chimera, something they try to achieve but never manage to find. For the band of tombaroli, thieves of ancient grave goods and archaeological wonders, the Chimera means redemption from work and the dream of easy wealth. For Arthur, the Chimera looks like the woman he lost, Beniamina. To find her, Arthur challenges the invisible, searches everywhere, goes inside the earth – in search of the door to the afterlife of which myths speak. In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between celebrations and solitudes, the intertwined destinies of these characters unfold, all in search of the Chimera.
