2023 GOTHAM AWARD WINNERS: ‘Past Lives’ Picks Up Best Feature (Full List)

The first major awards ceremony of the season kicked off tonight in Manhattan. The Gotham Awards marks the unofficial beginning of Oscar season, recognizing some of the best in independent and arthouse cinema from this year. The 33rd annual ceremony concluded with Celine Song’s A24 love story Past Lives taking home the award for Best Feature. It was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Performance for Greta Lee and Breakthrough Director for Song.

Justine Triet’s Palme d’Or-winning courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall won double this evening for Best International Feature and Best Screenplay by Triet and Arthur Harari. Lily Gladstone took home Outstanding Lead Performance – not for Killers of the Flower Moon – for Morissa Maltz’s road drama The Unknown Country. Charles Melton picked up Outstanding Supporting Performance for his role on Todd Haynes’ May December.

Kaouther Ben Hania’s emotional documentary Four Daughters took home the win for Best Documentary, while A.V. Rockwell received the Breakthrough Director Award for her searing debut A Thousand and One.
