THE SCOUT Trailer: Intimate Dramedy Dives Into One of the Most Vital Jobs in the Entertainment Industry
One of the best films to come out of last year’s Tribeca Festival was writer-director Paula González-Nasser’s slice-of-life dramedy, The Scout. Based on her own experiences working as a location scout, it stars breakout Mimi Davila as a young scout driving throughout New York City as she photographs the homes of strangers for a TV pilot, going back and forth between their private lives and the stresses of trying to satisfy her demanding employers. Greenwich Entertainment has now unveiled the official trailer ahead of its release at NYC’s Film Forum on September 25 and Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Los Angeles on October 2, before expanding nationwide.
Editor-at-large Matt Delman wrote in his Tribeca 2025 review, “While on the surface the film focuses on the mundane (the director cites Chantal Akerman as an inspiration), it is in fact bursting with life–of richly lived-in characters who we meet for only a few passing moments before being whisked along to the next setup. In this way, and in the frequent shooting in and around a car, The Scout is reminiscent of Jafar Panahi’s Taxi (2015)… It’s a film so effortlessly sublime that you’ll want to live in it.”
As the official synopsis reads,
Sofia works as a location scout for a TV pilot filming in New York City. It’s her job to find the homes, businesses, and exteriors where the show will be filmed. Driving around the city’s different neighborhoods, she enters the private spaces of strangers to photograph their cozy apartments and eclectic shops, stepping into the fabric of their lives while trying to satisfy the demands of her erratic employers. Over a day filled with these encounters, Sofia witnesses moments of curiosity, vulnerability, and quiet tension until her work takes a sudden, personal turn. Drawing from her own experience as a location scout, writer-director Paula González-Nasser captures the poetry and costs of being a young creative. Her celebrated directorial debut THE SCOUT crafts a contemplative exploration of urban disconnection, following one woman’s journey through other people’s worlds as she struggles to find her own.
