VULCANIZADORA Trailer: Joel Potrykus and Joshua Burge Journey to the Woods in Unpredictable Dark Comedy

“You feel better now. But tomorrow you’re gonna feel bad again.”
Beloved microbudget indie filmmaker Joel Potrykus (Relaxer; The Alchemist Cookbook) is back with a multihyphenate of roles in his newest dark slacker comedy, Vulcanizadora. Aside from serving as editor-writer-director, Potrykus also stars alongside his frequent leading man Joshua Burge as they reprise their roles from 2014’s Buzzard in this tale of a disintegrating friendship. Co-produced by Factory 25, the film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, where star Burge took home the Special Jury Mention Award for Performance in a U.S. feature. It was shot on 16mm by Potrykus’ frequent cinematographer Adam J. Minnick. Oscilloscope Laboratories has now just released the official trailer ahead of its release in theaters May 2, starting with New York’s IFC Center.
Here’s the brief synopsis:
Two friends trudge through a Michigan forest with the intention of following through on a disturbing pact. Once their plan goes shockingly awry, the haunting consequences of their failure can’t stay hidden for long.
At last year’s Tribeca, I wrote about the film, “[Potrykus and Burge’s] most recent collaboration, Vulcanizadora, has them reviving their characters from Buzzard, Marty and Derek, as they venture into the Michigan woods toward an unclear destination. The film is hilariously cringe and intense (in pure Potrykus fashion), while also unexpectedly heartbreaking and deeply profound.” Read my full interview with Potrykus and Burge HERE.
