After winning the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, before making stops at TIFF and NYFF, Pedro Almodóvar’s English feature debut The Room Next Door will finally hit U.S. theaters starting in December. Adapted from the novel “What Are You Going Through” by Sigrid Nunez, the drama stars Julianna Moore and Tilda Swinton as old friends, Ingrid and Martha, who reunite after decades apart when one of them becomes terminally ill and retreat to a modernist house in upstate New York. John Turturro and Alessandro Nivola also star.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter. Eventually, they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.
The Room Next Door opens in NY & LA on December 20, before expanding to additional cities on January 10. Watch the official trailer below.
