THE RETURN Trailer: Ralph Fiennes Fights For Juliette Binoche in Retelling of ‘The Odyssey’
Nearly thirty years after starring together in The English Patient, Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche are back together in a bold retelling of Homer’s “Odyssey.” Fiennes, already drawing awards buzz for his performance in Conclave, portrays the legendary hero Odysseus in The Return. Oscar-nominated producer Uberto Pasolini directs from a script he penned alongside John Collee and Edward Bond. The film follows Odysseus as he tries to return home to his throne after years of absence. Binoche stars as his’ wife Penelope who is tasked with protecting the throne in the aftermath of the Trojan War. Charlie Plummer, Marwen Kenarzi, Claudio Santamaria, and Angela Molina also star. Following its TIFF premiere, Bleecker Street has rolled out the official trailer ahead of its December 6 theatrical release.
Here’s the official synopsis:
After 20 years away, Odysseus (Fiennes) washes up on the shores of Ithaca, haggard and unrecognizable. The King has returned from the Trojan War, but much has changed in his kingdom. His beloved wife Penelope (Binoche) is a prisoner in her own home, hounded by suitors vying to be king. Their son Telemachus faces death at the hands of these suitors, who see him as merely an obstacle to their pursuit of the kingdom. Odysseus has also changed—scarred by his experience of the Trojan war, he is no longer the mighty warrior from years past— but he must rediscover his strength in order to win back all he has lost.
