A REAL PAIN Teaser: Jesse Eisenberg & Kieran Culkin Search For Their Roots in Sundance Hit

Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin are certainly A Real Pain to one another, but when is family usually not? Eisenberg writes and directs the new dark comedy, his second directorial venture following 2022’s When You Finish Saving the World. It was considered one of the best films of this year’s Sundance, where Eisenberg took home the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. The excellent duo of Eisenberg and Culkin star as mismatched cousins, David and Benji, who reunite in Poland to honor their beloved late grandmother while confronting old tensions. Will Sharpe, Jennifer Grey, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes also star.

The film was picked up at Sundance for a whopping $10 million by Searchlight Pictures. Eisenberg also reunites with his Zombieland co-star Emma Stone as producers alongside Dave McCary and Ali Herting of Stone’s Fruit Tree banner. Cinematographer Michal Dymek (EO) captures the visually arresting images. Searchlight is set to release A Real Pain only in theaters October 18.
