TIFF 2023 LINEUP: New Films From Richard Linklater, Kitty Green, Atom Egoyan, & Michel Franco Among World Premieres
With the film industry shaken up by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, the Toronto International Film Festival will forge ahead this coming September. They have just announced their first batch of starry lineups featuring about 60 films across the Gala and Special Presentations sections.
As they previously announced, three films making their world premieres at TIFF are Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins, Ladj Ly’s Les Indésirables, and Atom Egoyan’s Seven Veils. Other recently announced films making their world or North American premieres include Ellen Kuras’s Kate Winslet-starrer Lee, Kitty Green’s Australian-set thriller The Royal Hotel, Michel Franco’s Memory, Viggo Mortensen’s The Dead Don’t Hurt, Richard Linklater’s Hit Man, Ethan Hawke’s Wildcat, Bertrand Bonello’s The Beast.
Also among the lineup are films that made their mark at Cannes earlier this year. These include Justine Triet’s Palme d’Or-winning Anatomy of a Fall, Jonathan Glazer’s Grand Prix winner The Zone of Interest, Alice Rohrwacher’s La Chimera, Kore-eda Hirokazu’s Monster, Kaouther Ben Hania’s Best Documentary winner Four Daughters, and Warwick Thornton’s The New Boy featuring Cate Blanchett.
“This year’s Galas & Special Presentations showcase a rich tapestry of talent, vision, and storytelling,” said TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey. “From thought-provoking narratives to breathtaking visuals and stories so unreal they have to be real, each work embodies the power of cinema to inspire, challenge, and move audiences. Get ready to experience an unforgettable celebration of film and a memorable and star-studded festival, showcasing the best of global cinema for film lovers in September.”
The Festival will run from September 7-17. See the full Galas and Special Presentations lineups below.
