TIFF 2022: Docs & Contemporary World Cinema Lineups Announced

The Toronto International Film Festival has announced its lineup for both the TIFF Docs and Contemporary World Cinema section, featuring films from over 50 countries. The festival will run from September 8 – 18. The Docs lineup includes Laura Poitras’ All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, Werner Herzog’s Theatre of Thought, Sacha Jenkins’ Louis Armstrong’s Black & Blues, and Gabriela Cowperthwaithe’s The Grab.

Among the World Cinema films are the world premieres of Christophe Honoré’s Winter Boy and Koji Fukada’s Love Life. Other films making their North American premiere in the section are Jerzy Skolimowski’s Cannes winner EO, Charlotte Wells’ A24 film Aftersun, Cristian Mungiu’s R.M.N., and Charlotte Le Bon’s Falcon Lake.

“We are so proud of the TIFF Docs and Contemporary World Cinema programs,” chief programming officer, Anita Lee said. “The films reflect the moment we live in and speak to who we are today, including highly anticipated films by veteran filmmakers from around the globe.”

“This year’s TIFF Docs lineup has a wonderful mix of joy, creativity, and ingenuity in the face of adversity,” said TIFF Docs programmer Thom Powers, now in his 17th year overseeing the section. “In recent years, we witnessed numerous films launched from this section into distribution deals and Oscar nominations. This year has a rich crop for both.”
