LOCARNO 2026 LINEUP: New Films From Hong Sangsoo, Albert Serra, and More Slated for 79th Edition

Hong Sangsoo's NOWHERE TO LAY MY EYES

With Switzerland having advanced in the 2026 World Cup, the country is about to celebrate another huge event just around the corner. The Locarno International Film Festival has announced the lineup for its 79th edition, featuring 233 films from 69 countries, including 103 world premieres. Among these world premieres are Hong Sangsoo’s newest drama Nowhere To Lay My Eyes, Albert Serra’s Sixteen Moments of My Life, Giovanni Tortorici’s second feature (and Luca Guadagnino-produced) Keticé, Ann Oren’s Objet, Denis Côté’s Nobody’s Violence, and more. The festival will be held August 5-15.

Giona A. Nazzaro, Locarno’s artistic director, said in a statement, “An adventurous selection, full of surprises, which tackles the challenges of the present without ever sacrificing the pleasures of storytelling and entertainment. Ours is a selection of films deliberately set against the complexities of the present day, which explores and reflects on the transformations currently taking place within cinema and in the wider audiovisual sector. Cinema, then – in all its forms and possibilities. A cinema that curiously explores genres and styles in search of that spark of the future we all need.”
