CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2026 LINEUP: Almodóvar, Hamaguchi, Mungiu, Farhadi, Pawlikowski, and More Among the Competition Lineup
Get ready for the next wave of buzzworthy new cinema of 2026. The Cannes Film Festival has announced the lineup for its 79th edition, which will take place May 12 through 23. The films are divided into sections, from the Main Competition to Un Certain Regard.
Numerous films in the main competition this year include new titles from Cannes alums, including Fjord from Palme d’Or winner Christian Mungiu, starring Sebastian Stan (going back to his Romanian roots) and Renate Reinsve; Asghar Farhadi’s Parallel Tales; Pedro Almodóvar’s Bitter Christmas; Lukas Dhont’s Close follow-up Coward; Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s French-language debut All of a Sudden; Paweł Pawlikowski’s long-awaited return with the Sandra Hüller-starring Fatherland; Andrey Zvyagintsev’s Minotaur; László Nemes’ French-language debut Moulin; and Palme d’Or winner Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Sheep in the Box.
Other highlights in the lineup include Ira Sachs ‘ Rami Malek-starring musical The Man I Love; The Wailing director Na Hong-Jin’s long-awaited thriller Hope; Marie Kreutzer’s Gentle Monster; Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s Javier Bardem-starrer The Beloved; Jane Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma; Jordan Firstman’s directorial debut Club Kid; and Nicolas Winding Refn’s long-awaited return to cinema with Her Private Hell.
