BLUE HERON Trailer: A Family Grapples with Change and Mental Health in Canadian Coming-of-Age Drama
One of the most moving dramas to come out of last year’s Toronto International Film Festival was writer-director Sophy Ramvari’s feature debut, Blue Heron. Winner of prizes at TIFF and Locarno, the film follows an eight-year-old girl (newcomer Eylul Güven) in ’90s British Columbia who starts to notice cracks in her Hungarian family’s dynamics as they struggle to help their troubled teenage son. It also stars Iringó Réti, Ádám Tompa, Edik Beddoes, and Amy Zimmer. Ahead of its April 17 release in select theaters, Janus Films has unveiled the official trailer.

In the late 1990s, eight-year-old Sasha and her family relocate to a new home on Vancouver Island, but their fresh start is interrupted by increasingly dangerous behavior from the eldest son, Jeremy. At wit’s end, their parents are presented with a shattering choice. Award-winning director Sophy Romvari’s feature debut is a lyrical and profound testament to the things we carry with us, masterfully chronicling the haze of a languid summer and the hyaline clarity of the moments that defined it.
