ERUPCJA Trailer: Charli xcx Ghosts Her Boyfriend Abroad in Pete Ohs’s Comedy
In the aftermath of “Brat Summer” and her three acting roles out of Sundance, it’s safe to say that this is the generation of Charli xcx! The pop star and cinephile will make her fourth acting appearance of the year this spring in Erupcja, which she shot on the run in Warsaw with director Pete Ohs. Shot on a Canon DSLR by Ohs, Charli xcx stars as a young woman who ditches her boyfriend in Warsaw to party with a childhood friend. It also stars Lena Góra, Will Madden, and Jeremy O. Harris, who collaborated with Ohs last year on The True Beauty of Being Bitten by a Tick. Following its TIFF world premiere last fall and its upcoming North American premiere at SXSW, 1-2 Special has unveiled the official trailer ahead of its release in theaters on April 17.
As the official synopsis reads:
A romantic vacation goes awry when a volcanic eruption strands Bethany (Charli xcx) and her soon-to-be fiancé, Rob (Will Madden) in Warsaw, Poland. Bethany takes the explosive event as a sign to ditch her baggage, reunite with childhood friend Nel (Lena Góra) and traipse across lofts, clubs and back alleys, all the while becoming entangled in an emotional web that challenges her sense of self. From American maverick Pete Ohs, who wrote, directed, edited, photographed, and produced this dizzyingly charming European postcard, comes Erupcja, a delightful anti-romantic comedy about the pains and pleasures of being in love.
