THE OUTRUN Trailer: Saoirse Ronan Seeks Recovery and Redemption in Poignant True Story
Saoirse Ronan is on the uneasy road to healing in The Outrun. German filmmaker Nora Fingscheidt (The Unforgivable; System Crasher) directs from a script co-written with Amy Liptrot based on her best-selling memoir of the same name. It centers on a young woman (Ronan) who returns to her coastal Scottish hometown after a stint in rehab for alcoholism, hoping to face her past and find peace. Papaa Essiedu, Saskia Reeves, and Stephen Dillane also star. The official U.S. trailer for the Sundance breakout has now arrived ahead of its October 4 release in theaters.
Here’s the official synopsis:
After a decade away in London, 29-year-old Rona (Saoirse Ronan) returns home to the Orkney Islands. Sober but lonely, she tries to suppress her memory of the events which set her on this journey of recovery. Slowly the mystical land enters her inner world and – one day at a time – Rona finds hope and strength in herself among the heavy gales and the bracingly cold sea. Based on the bestselling memoir by Amy Liptrot, who co-wrote the screenplay with Fingscheidt, THE OUTRUN is an acutely honest drama about addiction and recovery.
