WATCH: Bobbi Salvör Menuez Acts Their Heart Out in Exclusive Clip for ‘Summer Solstice’
Bobbi Salvör Menuez inhabits struggling actor and recently-transitioned Leo in writer-director Noah Schamus’ Summer Solstice, a new twist on the buddy comedy from a unique perspective. Juggling a series of odd jobs and auditions, trans man Leo is unexpectedly paid a visit by his cis-hetero college best friend (Marianne Rendón). When they embark on an impromptu road trip upstate, their contrasting personalities, ever-changing lives, and the new gender dynamics between them force them to confront old feelings and who they are to each other now.
It was filmed over the course of 14 days in Brooklyn and the Hudson Valley. Its nuanced perspectives and groundbreaking vision make Schamus’ comedy a must-see for the summer… not to mention the month of Pride.
In the exclusive clip below, Leo puts his full emotion into an audition for a trans role – only to get a sense of the swift and awkward casting process.
Summer Solstice opens Friday, June 14 at IFC Center and L.A.’s Laemmle Glendale on June 21 before expanding nationwide.
