THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG Trailer: Mohammad Rasoulof’s Urgent Political Thriller Arrives in November
When it premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, writer-director Mohammad Rasoulof’s secretly-shot thriller The Seed of the Sacred Fig made headlines. Marking his first project to debut following his exile from his native Iran, after being sentenced to 8 years in prison and a flogging for political protesting, it highlights the injustices and unrest inflicted in modern Iranian society. The film follows a Tehran family, whose patriarch is a Revolutionary Court investigating judge, as they come under fire from threats and paranoia. Soheila Golestani, Mahsa Rostami, Setareh Maleki, Niousha Akhshi, Reza Akhlaghi, Shiva Ordooei, and Amineh Arani star. It went on to screen at TIFF and NYFF. After being selected as Germany’s official Oscar entry, NEON is set to release the thriller in select U.S. theaters on November 27.

Shot entirely in secret, Mohammad Rasoulof’s award-winning thriller, The Seed of the Sacred Fig centers on a family thrust into the public eye when Iman is appointed as an investigating judge in Tehran. As political unrest erupts in the streets, Iman realizes that his job is even more dangerous than expected, making him increasingly paranoid and distrustful, even of his own wife Najmeh and daughters Sana and Rezvan.
