ROBOT DREAMS Trailer: Pablo Berger’s Oscar-Nominated Ode To Friendship Arrives in May
One year after its Cannes premiere, the Oscar-nominee for Best Animated Feature Robot Dreams is finally making its way to U.S. theaters. The film had an awards-qualifying run way back in December (solidifying it as a 2023 film), and will open next month from NEON. Directed by Pablo Berger (Blancanieves), it is based on Sara Varon’s graphic novel and follows the unexpected friendship between an anthropomorphic dog and his robot in 1980s New York. Their friendship blossoms to the point of inseparability, until Dog is forced to leave Robot behind on the beach.
After making three live-action features, Robot Dreams marks Berger’s animated feature debut. On top of Cannes, it also screened at TIFF and BFI London. Right before the Oscars, it took home Best Animated Feature at the European Film Awards and Best Animated Independent Feature at the Annie Awards.
Robot Dreams premieres in theaters May 31 in NYC and Los Angeles on June 7, before expanding nationwide.
