MEMORY Trailer: Jessica Chastain & Peter Sarsgaard Seek a Connection in Michel Franco’s Drama

Known for his polarizing, nightmarish dramas that confront the worst of human nature (e.g. New Order or After Lucia), Michel Franco knows how to fill one with dread. But this time, he pulls the brakes for his most sensitive and touching story yet. Memory stars Jessica Chastain as a NYC social worker who finds herself followed home one night by an old high school acquaintance (Peter Sarsgaard) with early-onset Alzheimer’s. From there, what starts as an uncomfortable introduction turns into a touching bond that forces them both to confront their demons. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival where Sarsgaard picked up the Best Actor award for his nuanced performance. Both Chastain and Sarsgaard’s performances might launch them further in the awards conversation. Ketchup Entertainment has released the official trailer ahead of its December release.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Silvia (Jessica Chastain) works at a public home in New York City for adults struggling with mental health conditions. She leads a simple and structured life: her daughter, her job, her AA meetings. She meets Saul (Peter Sarsgaard) in the worst circumstances, after he has creepily followed her home from their high school reunion party and she finds him dripping wet and freezing outside her door the next morning. Their surprise encounter will profoundly impact both of them as they open the door to the past.

Memory opens in NY & LA on December 22, before expanding nationwide January 5. See the trailer and poster below.
