MEGALOPOLIS Trailer: Francis Ford Coppola’s New Epic Arrives in September
After years of anticipation for cinephiles and a highly-buzzed Cannes premiere, we are just about a month away from the release of Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis. Lionsgate is set to release the self-funded epic across North America on September 27 in theaters and IMAX. Adam Driver stars as an aspirational architect in a re-imagined Modern America who clashes with the corrupt mayor of his dystopian city, while falling in love with his rival’s daughter (Nathalie Emmanuel). Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Grace VanderWaal, Kathryn Hunter, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman also star. Ahead of its release and upcoming TIFF premiere, a new trailer has arrived.
Here’s the official synopsis:
MEGALOPOLIS is a Roman Epic set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.
