HOW TO HAVE SEX Trailer: Molly Manning Walker’s Electrifying Cannes Winner Arrives Soon From MUBI

One of the many distinct voices that broke out at this year’s Cannes Film Festival is Molly Manning Walker. The British writer-director premiered her pulsating feature debut How To Have Sex which won the top Un Certain Regard prize. With a strong cast of breakout actors, it follows a group of British teens who take a week-long holiday in the Greek resort town of Malia to party hard and get laid. When they encounter a group of fellow travelers, it gradually turns into a reckoning of sexuality and consent. The captivating breakout performance by lead Mia McKenna-Bruce has also gotten plenty of wide praise. While MUBI has yet to set a release date for North America, it will arrive in UK, Ireland, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil this November.

In their review from TIFF, HtN wrote “Full of vitality, [How To Have Sex] is a stunningly-told exploration of contemporary female adolescence that breaks most of the coming-of-age film tropes… With a pulse-pounding electronic soundtrack and strong breakout performances, Walker’s film is a fresh take on the coming-of-age genre… Manning Walker excels in changing the story’s tone and character dynamics without losing its incentive. Similar to Andrea Arnold and Eliza Hittman, she thoroughly portrays the hardships of female adolescence through a more authentic lens while maintaining its alluring cinematic aesthetic… Manning Walker’s ever-so-relevant feature debut will make you think long and hard about the tough questions, but in the end, there is catharsis at the end of the tunnel.”
