BIRTH/REBIRTH Trailer: Marin Ireland Resurrects The Dead In Sundance Horror Breakout

One of the most jaw-dropping, chilling films to come out of Sundance is Laura Moss’s birth/rebirth. It had its world premiere in the Midnight Section, where it was praised for its take on the Frankenstein-type tale, electrifying performances, and freshly disturbing elements. The always fantastic Marin Ireland stars as a hospital pathologist whose obsession with re-animating the dead takes a turn when she experiments on the deceased daughter of a nurse (Judy Reyes). This is Moss’s first feature, which they co-wrote with Brendan J. O’Brien. It also stars A.J. Lister, Breeda Wool, Monique Gabriela Curnen, Rina Mejia, Grant Harrison, and LaChanze. IFC Films and Shudder have released a nail-biting trailer ahead of its August release.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Rose (Marin Ireland) is a pathologist who prefers working with corpses over social interaction. She also has an obsession — the reanimation of the dead. Celie (Judy Reyes) is a maternity nurse who has built her life around her bouncy, chatterbox six-year-old daughter, Lila (A.J. Lister). When one tragic night, Lila suddenly falls ill and dies, the two women’s worlds crash into each other. They embark on a dark path of no return where they will be forced to confront how far they are willing to go to protect what they hold most dear.
