ANORA Trailer: Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-Winning Sensation Arrives in October

Mikey Madison and Mark Eydelshteyn in ANORA

No matter the production budget and the limited resources at his disposal, Sean Baker never fails to deliver an unforgettable cinematic experience. The director follows up 2019’s Red Rocket with a new exploration of the lives of sex workers, which is also a huge awards contender for this year. The highly-anticipated Anora won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and proved that the film’s star Mikey Madison (Scream, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) is a talent not to be underestimated.

Madison plays the titular exotic dancer – going by “Annie” – who gets more than she bargained for when she marries a Russian oligarch’s son (Mark Eydelshteyn). Also joining the duo in the fray are frequent Baker collaborator Karren Karagulian, Yura Borisov (Compartment No. 6), and Vache Tovmaysa. Baker shot the film on location in Brooklyn and Las Vegas with his Red Rocket DP Drew Daniels shooting on 35mm film.

This is also the fifth consecutive movie from distributor NEON to swoop up the Palme following Anatomy of a Fall, Triangle of Sadness, Titane, and Parasite.

Since 2009, we at Hammer To Nail have been championing the work of Baker (see list of posts HERE) and are unequivocally stoked to see his “love story” Anora when it (supposedly) hits the festival circuit and in theaters on October 18.
