THE LIBRARIANS Trailer: Sundance Documentary Captures the Fight Against Book Banning

Kim A. Snyder's THE LIBRARIANS

Oscar-nominated director Kim A. Snyder (Us Kids; Death By Numbers) dives deep into today’s nationwide fight against book banning in her critically acclaimed documentary, The Librarians. It follows the unnerving coordinated efforts in conservative-leaning states to ban books in numerous schools and libraries across the U.S., and the librarians who are pushing back to keep those books, many of which cover diverse and historically pressing topics. The documentary, executive-produced by Sarah Jessica Parker, also screened at SXSW, Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, and more festivals, where it scooped up numerous awards. Snyder also produces alongside Maria Cuomo Cole, Janique L. Robillard, and Jana Edelbaum.

The film is scheduled for a two-week run at NYC’s Film Forum starting on October 3, and a week in Los Angeles beginning October 10 at Laemmle Royal, followed by a national rollout in over 40 cities across the country.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQIA+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of extremism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.
