THE BALCONETTES Trailer: Noémie Merlant Directs & Stars in Revenge Tale Co-Written with Céline Sciamma

Years after breaking out in Céline Sciamma’s Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Noémie Merlant is also making a name for herself as a director. This time, she unleashes a wave of revenge in her sophomore feature The Balconettes. Directing from a script she co-wrote with Sciamma and Pauline Munier, Merlant stars as an actress getting through a heat wave in Marseille with her roommates/best friends, which soon turns deadly when a bloody situation is on their hands. As the official logline reads: “In the middle of a sweltering Marseille heatwave, three roommates gleefully meddle in their neighbors’ lives from their balcony—until a late-night drink spirals into a bloody confrontation.”

Souheila Yacoub (Dune: Part II), Sanda Codreanu (Call My Agent), and Lucas Bravo (Emily in Paris) also star in the horror-comedy, which premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival in the Midnight Screenings section. The Forge will release The Balconettes at IFC Center in New York on August 22, and at Landmark’s Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles on August 29 before expanding to additional markets.
