MARTY SUPREME Trailer: Timothée Chalamet is a Ping Pong Prodigy in Josh Safdie’s Drama

With his brother Benny making his solo directing outing later this year with his MMA drama The Smashing Machine, Josh Safdie is crafting his vision with a sports drama of his own just in time for Christmas. Marty Supreme takes us into the world of competitive table tennis, starring Timothée Chalamet as the fictional table tennis champion (and hustler) Marty Mauser, inspired by real-life ping pong pro Marty Reisman. Reisman, who was the subject of the documentary Fact or Fiction: The Life and Times of a Ping Pong Hustler, had a career that spanned 22 table tennis championships and was considered “the oldest player to win an open national competition in a racket sport.”
Josh co-wrote the film with his frequent collaborator Ronald Bronstein, who co-wrote and edited Uncut Gems and Good Time. The phenomenal cast also includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler Okonma (aka Tyler, the Creator), Fran Drescher, Odessa A’zion, Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary, filmmaker Abel Ferrara, magician Penn Gillette, Sandra Bernhard, and Twin Towers acrobat Phillippe Petit, the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire. The crew also consists of Uncut Gems cinematographer Darius Khondji and legendary production designer Jack Fisk (There Will Be Blood; Killers of the Flower Moon).
Ahead of its Christmas Day release, A24 has now unveiled the first trailer, giving us a peek at Chalamet’s ping pong talents.
