Pick of the Week
Love Exposure (Olive Films) — This film is famous for two reasons: the 4+ hour run-time and its seamlessly blending together of every film genre you can think of. Family remains a key concept explored by Shion Sono: Yu (Takahiro Nishijima) sins in order to please his father—a born again Catholic Priest craving redemption—and winds up becoming a panty-shot auteur who then meets a tough tomboy and seduces a psychotic cult member that culminates in a Female Convict Scorpion reference—which is just the (40+ minute!) pre-credit sequence. Sono crams so much into this story that the transition from perversion to high school drama to action film only makes sense that by the final shot there’s no other choice but to cheer. Available on DVD. (John Lichman)

Wild Cards of the Week
Midnight In Paris (Sony Classics) — When I finally got around to catching up with Woody Allen’s latest, boy, oh boy, was I disappointed. Available on DVD, Blu-ray, and at Amazon Instant.
Straw Dogs (Sony) — Having not seen Rod Lurie’s remake—now available on DVD and Blu-ray—I think it’s still safe to say that if you haven’t seen Sam Peckinpah’s original film, do that first (DVD and Blu-ray).

Could you please tag the home video picks articles just under, “Home Video Picks” without the date so it’s easier to find a collection of articles of home video picks?
I’m looking for a host of bored-over-the-holidays recommendations and it’s difficult to go back and find all of the home video pics articles.

Sorry about that, Ricky. For a quick fix, try clicking on the “categories” tag on the main page and then clicking on either “On DVD” or “DVD Releases”. That should give a full index of Home Video Picks posts.
