THE THINGS YOU KILL Exclusive Clip: Canada’s Oscar Entry is Now Playing in Theaters

THE THINGS YOU KILL

Canada’s official submission to the 98th Academy Awards, writer-director Alireza Khatami’s The Things You Kill is a psychological thriller that explores how family trauma can push and change a person. Set in Turkey, it follows university professor Ali (Ekin Koç), who is haunted by the suspicious circumstances surrounding his ailing mother’s death and seeks the help of a questionable gardener (Erkan Kolçak Köstendil) to carry out an act of vengeance.

This character study of masculinity and violence also ventures into Lynchian territory as identities begin to shift, both metaphorically and physically. In an exclusive clip, courtesy of Cineverse and Fandor, the protagonist’s alibi surrounding a person’s disappearance is called into question in one of the film’s many tense moments. The Sundance winner is now playing in select theaters.

As the official synopsis reads:

Questioning the suspicious death of his mother, a university professor and his enigmatic gardener descend into a hypnotic maze of mirrors and memories. As family secrets surface and painful truths emerge, they spiral toward a devastating reckoning with the darkness lurking within us all.
