LOVE, BROOKLYN Trailer: André Holland Struggles with Romance in a Changing City

Modern love is in the air this summer. The aptly titled Love, Brooklyn finds André Holland, Nicole Beharie, and DeWanda Wise navigating relationships while coping with the changes in their borough. Rachael Holder makes her feature directorial debut from a script by Paul Zimmerman. The rest of the phenomenal cast includes Roy Wood Jr., Cassandra Freeman, Cadence Reese, and Jack Haven. Greenwich Entertainment acquired the film, executive-produced by Steven Soderbergh, following its Sundance premiere. It has now set it for an August 29 release at NYC’s Angelika Film Center, before expanding nationwide on September 5.

Here’s the official synopsis:

A writer (André Holland, Moonlight) navigates complicated relationships with his ex, an art gallery owner (Nicole Beharie, The Morning Show), and his current lover, a newly single mother (DeWanda Wise, She’s Gotta Have It), with the support of his best friend (Roy Wood Jr., The Daily Show). A modern romance set against the rapidly changing landscape of Brooklyn, New York. A Sundance premiere.

I wrote in my Sundance review, “Director Rachel Holder and writer Paul Zimmerman are all about emotions and chemistry here, and treat their characters with enough sensitivity. There’s a level of truth in just about every line of dialogue spoken. André Holland flexes his comedic chops well as someone who uses humor and charisma to deflect from a more emotional connection. He has plenty of chemistry with Beharie and Wise (solid performances from both as well), and the scenes where he interacts with them are always striking to watch. Even though [Love, Brooklyn] may be light in its plot, you’ll still be in for an entertaining, lovely, and upbeat watch that shines the city in a special romantic light.”
