HIGHEST 2 LOWEST Trailer: Denzel Washington Is In a Race Against Time in Spike Lee’s Newest Thriller

After making prolific films together over 25 years (Mo’ Better Blues, Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Inside Man), Denzel Washington and Spike Lee are a duo to be reckoned with. Now, Lee directs Denzel in what is considered to be a thrilling and entertaining homage to Akira Kurosawa in one of the best-reviewed films at this year’s Cannes. Highest 2 Lowest is a remake of Kurosawa’s more bleak 1963 classic High and Low, and is set in Lee’s stomping grounds of modern-day New York City. It also stars Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, Aubrey Joseph, Elijah Wright, Ice Spice, and A$AP Rocky, who was also recently seen in Mary Bronstein’s Sundance title, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

A24 will release Highest 2 Lowest in theaters on August 15, before it lands on Apple TV+ on September 5. The official trailer has finally arrived.

Here’s the official synopsis:

When a titan music mogul (Denzel Washington), widely known as having the “best ears in the business”, is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma. Brothers Denzel Washington and Spike Lee reunite for the 5th in their long working relationship for a reinterpretation of the great filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller High and Low, now played out on the mean streets of modern-day New York City.
