EDDINGTON Trailer: Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal Face Off in Ari Aster’s Pandemic Paranoia Western

After working together on the polarizing, yet mindblowing Beau Is Afraid, Ari Aster and Joaquin Phoenix are back together for the former’s fourth feature. Eddington, fresh off its world premiere at Cannes, is a Western set in 2020 during the days of the COVID-19 lockdown. Phoenix stars as a sheriff running for mayor of his New Mexico town against incumbent Pedro Pascal. The cast also includes Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Luke Grimes, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins, Jr., William Belleau, Cameron Mann, Matt Gomez Hidaka, and Amélie Hoeferle.
Aster produces alongside Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner. Oscar-nominated cinematographer Darius Khondji (Bardo; Uncut Gems) lensed the film with Lucian Johnson (Hereditary; Midsommar) as editor and Daniel Pemberton as composer. Prior to its release, Eddington will open the Fantasia International Film Festival on July 16. A24, in its fourth collaboration with Aster, will release it in theaters everywhere on July 18.
Here’s the brief synopsis:
In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.
