DREAMS U.S. Trailer: Dag Johan Haugerud’s Golden Bear Winner Arrives in September

After dissecting the concepts of love, sexuality, and gender in his previous features, Love and Sex, Norwegian filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud concludes his Oslo Trilogy with his third entry, Dreams. The film premiered at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival, where the Todd Haynes-headed jury awarded him the Golden Bear for Best Film. The Oslo-set drama follows a teenage girl who expresses her romantic feelings and experiences in writing, and what unfolds when her mother and grandmother stumble upon it. It stars Ella Øverbye, Selome Emnetu, Ane Dahl Torp, and Anne Marit Jacobsen. Strand Releasing, which picked up the North American rights to the Oslo Trilogy, has set the final installment for a September 12 release at NYC’s Film Forum on September 12, followed by a nationwide rollout.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Johanne falls in love for the first time, with her teacher. To preserve her feelings, she documents her emotions and experiences in writing. When her mother and grandmother read what she has written, they are initially shocked by its intimate content but soon see that it has literary potential. As they debate whether to publish it, Johanne navigates the gap between her romantic fantasy and reality, and all three women confront their differing views on love, sexuality, and self-discovery.
