BLUE MOON Trailer: Ethan Hawke Embodies a Legendary Lyricist in His Latest Collaboration with Richard Linklater

Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke, one of cinema’s iconic and enduring pairings, reunite with a musical biopic that made waves at the Berlinale this year. Blue Moon stars Hawke as lyricist Lorenz Hart, one-half of the legendary duo Rodgers and Hart, before a creative split between the two. It follows Hart over the course of one night in 1943 during the world stage premiere of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma as he struggles with his vices. The film also stars Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Andrew Scott, who won the Silver Bear for Supporting Performance at Berlinale for his role as Richard Rodgers.
Linklater, whose recent Cannes premiering Nouvelle Vague is also due this year, directs from a script by novelist Robert Kaplow. Sony Pictures Classics will open the film in New York and Los Angeles on October 17, before expanding on October 24.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“…You know how in marriage they say ‘for better or for worse’? I think, in terms of my life, I have entered the ‘for worse’ part, and it happened so quietly I didn’t even recognize it.” Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon tells the story of legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart bravely facing the future as his professional and private lives unravel at the opening night party for his former partner’s hit show Oklahoma! By the time this night is over, Hart will have confronted both a world that no longer values his talent and the seeming impossibility of love.
