BACKROOMS Trailer: Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor Explore a Dimension of Horrors in Kane Parsons’ Feature Debut
In 2022, a then-16-year-old Kane Parsons (aka Kane Pixels) introduced the world to his creepypasta, found-footage web series Backrooms, which drew tens of millions of viewers and followers on YouTube over the next few years. Now, the 20-year-old director has adapted his terrifying series to a new feature film set to kick off the new Summer of Horror! A24 has released the official trailer for the film, which stars Renate Reinsve, fresh off her Oscar nomination for Sentimental Value, as a therapist who ventures into a yellow wallpaper-filled dimension at the back of a furniture store to find her missing patient (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who himself first came across the rooms.
The cast also includes Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia. For his feature directorial debut, Parsons has a parade of producers backing the film, among them James Wan, Shawn Levy, and Osgood Perkins. Will Soodik, a writer on Westworld and Ash vs. Evil Dead, was brought on to pen the script based on Parsons’ concepts. In addition to directing, Parsons also composed the score alongside Edo Van Breeman. A24 will release Backrooms in theaters on May 29.
