Set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, not far from the site of the “Lost Colony” of Roanoke, the movie at first appears to be a relatively ordinary coming-of-age story. Soon, however, it reveals itself to be a complex narrative exploring issues of memory, identity and self-determination in a hauntingly stark (yet beautiful) landscape of physical and mental decay.
