]]> https://www.hammertonail.com/reviews/i-am-john-wayne-film-review/#comment-14842 Sun, 01 Apr 2012 21:57:00 +0000 http://www.hammertonail.com/?p=15801#comment-14842 Amazing film . . . and sadly . . . . timeless . . . . the “American/Russian” girl can talk to him, flirt with him, smoke a joint with *obviously way more skill* than him, pierce her face, but just can’t bring herself to allow him to “steal” a kiss!?!  The tragic shooting death of Trayvon Martin, in Florida, is just another testament that racism is still (sadly) alive and well, in good ‘ol America.  Thru the eyes of this film, and other works like this, maybe just maybe . . . . some day (Please, God) we will realize that we CAN CHOOSE to celebrate & understand our differences, rather than just take the easy & ignorant way out . . . . of fear & hate!  R.I.P. Trayvon & “Jerry” & all of the “hidden” inner city youths that die, without ever making “Front Page” news . . . . and to their very real families who will never “get” justice for their children.  “Mama’s don’t let your babies grow up to be Cowboys . . . with hoodies!”  Oh wait, different song – my bad.  Don’t know whether to cry or throw-up . . . but I must say, this film really brings it home!  Great job . . . just way to sorry it still needs to be “shot” – no pun intended, really.  It is Two-Thousand-Twelve, right?
