Range Life Invades LA This Week

Shame on me for not having gotten to this sooner, but the last few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind. Excuses, schmexcuses. Anyway, this week, Todd Sklar’s traveling movie festival, Range Life, stops off in Los Angeles for a whole week of cinematic goodness at the Downtown Independent (251 S. Main St.). While it’s too late to go back in time and catch Monday night’s wild double-bill of Chusy Haney-Jardine’s Anywhere, USA and Alex Ross Perry’s Impolex, tonight kicks off a four-day session that covers some impressively wide ground when it comes to recent American independent cinema. Check out this lineup:

Wednesday (10/21): Woodpecker (Alex Karpovsky, 7pm), The Guatemalan Handshake (Todd Rohal, 9pm)

Thursday (10/22): Visioneers (Jared Drake, 7pm), Happy Birthday, Harris Malden (Various Directors, 9pm)

Friday (10/23): Assassination of a High School President (Brett Simon, 7pm), Last Cup (Daniel Lindsay, 9pm)

Saturday (10/24): White on Rice (Dave Boyle, 4:15pm), Box Elder (Todd Sklar, 6pm)

Though I haven’t seen all of the above films, those that I have watched I fully recommend. But even removing that from the equation, an undertaking like this should be supported in any way, shape, or form. After LA, the circus lands in Las Vegas (10/25-28) and Arizona (Tuscon 11/1-4, Phoenix 11/5-7), so be sure to plan accordingly if you live in that part of the country.
