This weekend in New York City, two of the most extraordinary films of recent memory are making an appearance on the big screen. On the fiction side of things is Carlos Reygadas’ Silent Light. On the non-fiction side is Matt Wolf’s Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell.
I have only seen Silent Light once, at last year’s NYFF press screening, and I cannot wait to experience it again in a theater (it begins a one-week run at MoMA today). As for Wild Combination, though I have seen it twice, that isn’t going to stop me from supporting it during its theatrical run (it opens at the IFC Center on Friday).
In case you missed them, please read David Lowery’s review of Silent Light as well as my review of Wild Combination. These films get Hammer to Nail’s highest recommendation!
